Our alliance with United Airlines covers flights between New Zealand and mainland USA, including connecting flights within New Zealand and the US. For our customers, it means easy access to more flights and more destinations.

More seats, more flight times

Air New Zealand operates year round non-stop flights between Auckland and Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and Chicago.

United Airlines operate year-round non-stop flights between Auckland and San Francisco.

From 29 October 2020 Air New Zealand will start flying a new non-stop service between Auckland and New York* (Newark Liberty International Airport). The new service will operate three times per week with flights departing both ports on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, year-round using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner code 2 aircraft. The code 2 aircraft will offer customers more Business Premier and Premium Economy seating. Flight time is expected to be 15 hours 40 minutes northbound and 17 hours 40 minutes southbound.

From its East Coast gateway at Newark Liberty International Airport, United Airlines operates more than 400 daily flights across the United States. The new service between Auckland and New York will also provide customers with convenient onward connections to more destinations across the United States.

Seat Select

You can select complimentary seats on United Airlines operated flights when booked as part of your itinerary through Air New Zealand. We do recommend that you pre-select seating on United Airlines operated services to ensure you are seated together with family and travel companions.

Complimentary Seat Select is available at any time after you have booked when you sign in to myairnz.

Member benefits

Air New Zealand and United Airlines are Star Alliance members, so customers enjoy reciprocal frequent flyer benefits, such as earning and spending loyalty points. Star Alliance Gold members (Airpoints™ Gold and Elite) also receive frequent flyer benefits, such as lounge access and priority handling at the airport.

Baggage allowance

Young people and children travelling alone

For 12 - 16 year olds travelling alone on United Airlines operated services, we remind you to review United Airlines's unaccompanied minor policy. Whilst these passengers are permitted to travel on Air New Zealand operated services, differing airline policies may see them denied boarding whilst transiting between the Air New Zealand service and a service operated by another carrier.
